Jane Austen’s novels are set in the landscape and culture of privileged society of Regency England. Hampshire was her beloved home whilst Bath and Dorset provided inspiration for her plots. This is a 2 day tour with a local Blue Badge Guide who knows and loves the landscapes of Jane Austen’s life.

On this tour you could:

Day 1

  • Visit the quiet country village where Jane was born and explore the church where her father was vicar with its fascinating family objects and memorials.

  • Travel through the rich Hampshire countryside to Chawton and visit her favourite, last home, full of Janeite treasures: a must for any fan.

  • Enjoy a guided walk through the village to explore her wealthy brother’s grand house, set in lovely gardens.

  • Drive on to the city of Winchester for a guided walk of the streets where Jane spent her final weeks.

  • Visit glorious Winchester Cathedral and pay a moment’s homage at her memorial.

Day 2

  • Uncover the twists and turns of Jane’s novels and the streets and buildings she knew, on a walking tour of Bath.

  • Explore the most complete Georgian House in Bath – No 1, The Royal Crescent.

  • Enjoy an excellent lunch in the Pump Room and sample a glass of the famous spa water.

  • Travel on to the historic village of Lacock for a guided walk of film locations used for Jane’s novels.

Other options:

  • Lyme Regis in Dorset to walk the famous Cobb key to plot of Persuasion.

  • Southampton and the New Forest – Jane lived here with her naval captain brother.

  • Nearby Netley Abbey provided the inspiration for Northanger Abbey.

  • The Vyne,  a glorious mansion in Hampshire where Jane and her sister Cassandra attended dances.
